Overview
This project included the redesign of the full IBM Careers journey (external and internal) - from searching through to applying for a job.
Challenges
Prior to the redesign,
Job search experience was very fragmented
the Ibm jobs database was very hard to find unless you knew how to get to it already
The user journey to get to jobs database was way too high in clicks
There was duplication of job search engines across IBM’s intranet, giving different results and causing lots of confusion with users
No way for users to mark themselves ‘open to explore’ so that hiring managers could find interested internal candidates.
Approach
Our top level goals were:
Understand current state by completing a heuristic review and design assessment of internal and external journeys
Small scale survey to identify users’ pain points and current process for finding jobs within IBM
Look for opportunities to simplify journeys
Consider rebranding existing job listing site.
Look for opportunities to connect candidates with hiring managers
A primary persona: IBMer

Outcome
After the redesign of the internal and external careers journeys, a simplification in both journeys meant:
- reduction from 11 > 4 clicks (internal) from search to job detail page, and
- reduction from 7 > 2 clicks (external) from Careers home page to job detail page.
This also included a renaming / rebranding of the internal careers listings from an acronym that nobody was familiar with to a simple ‘Jobs’ naming.
